GPS connection to DSC

I hope you will all forgive me if I write this in English as I do not wish tha translator to make any silly mistakes.

So here it goes.

I have been trying to connect my GARMIN GPS to my ICOM VHF/DSC. So far reading the GARMIN manual got me no where. However, I emailed GARMIN and this is the reply they sent to me.

I hope that there is some benefit to who ever is interested to do this by him/her self

PS GARMIN have been always 1st calss in aftersales service

Important and maybe your mistake is to set the GPS to NEMA protocol !!!

DSC is a great feature. Have you ever heard about a way to test it (without alarming the CG?)

DSC Funktionen kannst Du nur im Display testen, ob alles richtig losläuft und angezeigt wird, der "scharfe Alarm" wird ja erst gesendet, wenn Du die Taste lange gedrückt hälst.

Stimmt aber es juckt mich in den fingern auszuprobieren ob das alles denn dann auch tut, oder ob im ernstfall irgendein bug verhindert dass die koordinaten richtig gesendet werden (waehrend man hoffnungsvoll auf rettung wartet)
